Happy New Year to everyone!

My name is Carole Ashby. I was born in Morecambe, the daughter of a local builder where I guess I acquired my interest and pleasure of all things practical and creative. I was one of three daughters with none of us expected to continue in the business! I chose to go to teaching training college in Coventry and discovered I loved working with children. I learnt and taught various arts and crafts with a special love for ceramics. After a brief spell teaching in Birmingham I emigrated to Australia with my boyfriend. We married in Wagga Wagga NSW but after 3 years (much to his dismay!) we came back to the UK and found jobs in our home town. I continued to teach in Lancaster for a further 35 years. I still enjoy helping out at LRGS when needed. My other interest is the theatre. Trained as a dancer in my youth gave me the confidence to perform in productions both here and Australia. I joined The Mill 5 years ago when Lunelab first launched. A year later I transferred to the artist studio where I get the opportunity to work and share ideas with other artists.

We asked Carole 3 ‘just for fun’ questions and here is what she had to say:

If you had to leave Earth on a spaceship, which 3 items would you take with you?

On a spaceship I would take
a) the music of the “Planet” Suite by Holst
b) lots of “Mars “Bar
c) My favourite perfume to sweeten the “Atmosphere”!

What was your favourite toy as a child?

Toys? I love pin ball machines! I loved the fairground in Morecambe.

If you could invite 3 guests, dead or alive, to a dinner party who would they be and why?

Dinner party guests would be Victoria Wood, Ann Reid and Thora Hird. 2 from “Dinner Ladies “could do the washing up whilst I reminisced about local theatre with Thora who was in the Warblers with my Dad!

What is your guilty pleasure?

My guilty pleasure is shopping – my husband says it’s a disease!

Marmite- love it or hate it?

My grandson loves Marmite so I’ve given it a try but have yet to be won over.

Next month we will meet Becky Dallender from Rainbow Therapies (located in The Rainbow Room at Halton Mill)….
